Board Membership


President – Mr. Paul Scales

Paul Scales is a Chartered Surveyor and President of The Irish Thai Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate in Real Estate of DIT and has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts from Trinity College Dublin. He is a board director of the Thai Board of Trade and a member of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club. Paul is an active board member of the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand and a former board member of the British Chamber of Commerce in Thailand.

Paul has been living and working in Thailand since 1989. He has founded numerous companies in Thailand including Jones Lang Wootton (now LaSalle), Pacific Investments Asia Ltd and Thai Consumer Distribution Co Ltd. He is also a founder and fund manager of the Pacific Thai Property Fund.


Vice President – Mr. Paul Potter

Paul Potter graduated from University College Cork with a B.Sc. In Biochemistry & Microbiology and a Diploma In Higher Education. He worked in Ireland as a consultant with Douglas Dennehy & Assoc. where he completed his Diploma in Industrial Engineering. He has taken up many positions with the Kerry Group working as Export Manager based in Bristol U.K. and later running their German and Scandinavian operation based in Frankfurt for 10 years. He moved to Thailand to establish Kerry’s business in Thailand.


Director – Mr. Conor Bracken

Conor Bracken is the founder and CEO of Andovar Pte Ltd, a global IT services company with offices on 4 continents. He is recognized within the industry as a pioneer in the separation of production centers and client-facing services.

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Conor has been resident in Thailand for 18 years and speaks and reads Thai. He is a founding director of the Irish-Thai Chamber of Commerce and has also previously served on the board of the St. Patrick’s Society of Thailand for three years.

Director – Mr. John Campbell

Originally from Derry, John holds a BEng in Chemical Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology and a MBA from Manchester Business School. He has worked in various roles, including Business Development and Project Management, in the oil and gas sector for the engineering, construction and power equipment company, Amec Foster Wheeler. He first worked in Thailand in 1995 and subsequently has spent 15 of the past 20 years working in Asia, including spells in the Philippines and Taiwan. He has been permanently based in Thailand since 2003. A Fellow of the UK-based Institute of Chemical Engineering he is the Senior Ambassador in Thailand and is working to promote and develop collaboration in the chemical engineering profession in Thailand.

A former Derry minor footballer John is Chairman and a founding member of the Bangkok GAA club. He was the chairman of the organising committee for 2009′s Asian Gaelic Games in Bangkok, an event that combined with the Asia Pacific Ireland Business Forum, remains the largest celebration of Irish sport, culture and business success ever held in Thailand. He also organized the 2012 and 2015 South Asian Games, which were held in Pattaya and Bangkok respectively. A keen golfer John can be found most weekends on one of Bangkok’s fine golf courses.


Director – Mr. Michael Bain

Michael Bain graduated from Queens University Belfast. Honors Chemistry in 1965. Michael was a Founding Managing Director of Kuwait Petroleum Thailand during 1989-1995, European Director-Public Affairs of Kuwait Petroleum and Global Marketing Director of Kuwait Petroleum Aviation Fuels. He was also Vice President Marketing Gulf Oil Chemicals Europe and Business Development Manager of Shell Chemicals UK.

Michael has domicile in Thailand since 1996, owns and manages Crestcom Management Development Training Company since 1996 to date. He is a Board Member of Operation Smile Thailand since 1997 and a former Board Member of Rotary Club of Bangkok South.


Director – Mr. Donal Coyne

Donal T. Coyne, AIA ACIArb. is the Managing Partner of Steven J. Leach, Jr. + Associates Limited, Bangkok as well as a member of the American Institute of Architects and The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

After spending eight years in New York City five in Hong Kong working on both architectural and interiors projects, Mr. Coyne moved to Bangkok in 1993 where he joined SL+A. He assumed the role of Managing Partner of SL+A Bangkok in 1996 and has overseen its growth to its current size of 55 staff. Since joining SL+A he and the company have enjoyed considerable growth and expansion in Interior and Architectural Design. The company has received several awards for design excellence and innovative design, and in 2003 the company opened a subsidiary office in Phuket catering to high-end residential clients.


Director and Honorary Treasurer – Mr. Gavin James Lawler

Gavin is from Dublin. He attended DIT and majored in International Business and Languages (Spanish and Italian), he also attended the London School of Economics. He started his career with PwC Dublin, and then through the PwC international strategic program was seconded to PwC Bangkok. Gavin then joined PwC Hong Kong. Gavin returned to Thailand in 2011 to work with KPMG. In 2013 Gavin assumed the role as; Chief Financial Officer for ACE Life Thailand.

Gavin through his social ability and professional experience has amassed a significant network throughout Asia, which he uses for the benefit of spreading the Irish message, “we are open for business”. Gavin enjoys a game of golf and is an avid Crossfitter, he also a frequent visitor to the F1 GP in Singapore. Gavin is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland.


Director – Mr. Matthew Silvester

Coming from Passage West in County Cork, Matthew Silvester holds a B. Eng. Hons. in Mechanical Engineering, from Cork Institute of Technology. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers), and a member of Engineers Ireland. He has been travelling to Asia since 1999 and came to live and work in Bangkok in 2010. He is an Associate Director at Meinhardt Thailand Ltd.

Meinhardt Group is an international engineering consultancy firm. The 350 person-strong Bangkok office specializes in the design and construction management of projects such as high rise offices, condominiums, hotels, and industrial facilities. Matthew is responsible for a folio of projects across Thailand, and oversees the M&E operations in Myanmar.


Director – Mr. Iain Melville

Born in Sarawak, East Malaysia, Iain was educated at Glenalmond College and the University of Edinburgh (LLB (Hons) 1980, DLP 1981). Having initially worked in Edinburgh and London on some of the UK’s largest MBOs, he came out to Hong Kong in 1993 to act as legal adviser, Listing Division, Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, before returning to private practice in 1996. In the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis of 1997, he moved to Bangkok to work on some of Thailand’s largest debt restructuring cases with a leading international law firm. Iain is now a Senior Consultant with Axis Legal, a specialist corporate law firm based in Bangkok. Iain is a member of the Law Society of Scotland and the Law Society of Hong Kong. He is married with two children, and enjoys rugby, golf, fine wine and dining, photography, travel, reading, and time spent with family and friends.


Director – Dr. Hugh O’Connell

Dr. Hugh O’Connell completed his MBA at the University of Surrey and his doctorate with the University of South Australia. He is one of the joint founders of Plan-it Consultants and a managing director. He has been successfully placing students in UK universities since the company’s inception in 1997 and is now developing a market for Irish higher education institutions in Thailand. Plan-it Consultants are also responsible for the promotion of the International Computer Driving License (ICDL, also European Computer Driving License; ECDL) which is a certification programme designed to acknowledge core computer literacy skills. ICDL is for businesses and individuals and provides accreditation for computer skills relevant to modern business.

Vice President – Mrs. Anne Hanniffy

Anne Hanniffy is currently the Corporate Responsibility Specialist for Krungthai-AXA Life in Thailand. Previous to this position Anne was CEO of Fundraising Ireland, the Umbrella body of charities in Ireland. From 2010-2013 she held the position of CEO with the charity Haven, an Irish NGO working to build sustainable communities in Haiti.

A graduate of University College Dublin with an honours degree in social science, Anne moved to New York City and resided there from 1995 to 1999, working in the financial industry at Lehman Brothers and KCSA Public Relations. In September 1999, she joined GOAL Ireland, the international aid organisation, and stayed there for eight years. She served as country director in East Timor and Niger, and she was also the emergency coordinator for three years, responding to major emergencies in countries such as Darfur, Iran and Niger and several major earthquake and famine disasters in Africa and Asia. In 2007 she managed and co-ordinated The Chicago Trophy, an international soccer event in partnership with Platinum One Ireland and The City of Chicago. Prior to Haven she was Events Director at Business & Finance managing international events and award programmes in Asia, the US and Ireland.

Director – Jessica Hammer

Jessica is an Enterprise Software Design Consultant from Kildare. She spent almost 20 years in South Florida before moving to Bangkok in 2015. She has a degree in Graphic Design – Digital Media and has worked for several design agencies as a user experience designer and project manager. In Bangkok, she works in sales and design for new business projects at G-Able, a leading Thai IT company.
She plays GAA and the fiddle but rarely at the same time.

Director – Emma Gregory

Emma Gregory is a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America and one of the founders of Spokes Jewelry Services Limited, a fine jewelry manufacturer based in Bangkok, Thailand. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin (B.A. (Hons) in Economics) she has been living in Bangkok since 2006. Prior to Thailand, she spent 5 years working in Colorado in Human Resources Management. She has also lived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania working in education.
